Henderson County Tales

Henderson County Tales

  • Tales from Two Rivers Stories

Kathy Nichols, 2nd from right, of Western IL University, helped TRAC members search through essays written up to 45 years ago by senior citizens of Henderson County.  Some of their autobiographical stories were published in a series of seven books called Tales from Two Rivers.  The stories were from 21 years of writings collected from Tales contests. Some were included in the books, edited by Dr. John Hallwas.

  • Selecting the Gems for the Show

Our team read each story and selected excerpts that were wise, funny, and sometimes heartbreaking.  Musician and song writer Dan Eilers helped to arrange the content with music. Dan has the perfect voice, musicianship and vibe - and is a Henderson County native!

Topics included changes in the agricultural lifestyles, life along the Mississippi, politics and even the prohibition!

  • Authors' Voices are Heard

Henderson County residents and authors featured in the show include: Vernan Barr, Dorothy Brown, Homer Canfield, Muriel Carner, Willis Dixon, Irene Gibb, Sylvia Gillaspie, Nellie Grafton, Mrs. John Kane, Virgie Mead, Eloise Melvin Hutchinson, Louise Mulligan, Clarence Neff, Rev. Carroll Oschner, Faye Christian Perry, Mabelle Sanderson, Margaret Shelton, Mabel Spears and Louis Young.  Many friends and family members were in the audience.
